AUGUSTA, Maine ? Heating oil prices are continuing to climb in Maine, going up an average of 2 cents a gallon in the past week.
Maine's energy office said Tuesday the statewide average price of No. 2 heating oil was $3.70 gallon. The lowest prices are in southwestern Maine and the highest are in the northern part of the state. The 2-cent increase follows a rise of 11 cents per gallon two weeks ago.
Ken Fletcher, director of Maine's Office of Energy Independence and Security, said federal energy officials are now estimating that average household heating oil expenditures in the Northeast will go up 4 percent this winter ? down from the 8-percent increase that was being predicted in October.
