AMVETS Receives $250,000 C.O.D.E. Grant

Cmdr. Cleve Geer announces 20 new AMVETS Career Centers to open nationwide in 2013 with funding from Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty Endowment?

WASHINGTON, March 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --?On Wednesday, March 20, AMVETS National Commander Cleve Geer announced plans to expand the AMVETS Career Center Program with 20 new locations nationwide with the assistance of a $250,000 grant from Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty Endowment.

AMVETS Career Centers, administered locally by volunteers at AMVETS posts, provide transitioning and unemployed veterans with free job placement assistance including access to employment databases, free certification programs and training, help improving interview skills and resumes, enhancing computer skills and offering free business attire through a donation from Men's Wearhouse. ?

The latest grant from C.O.D.E. will enable AMVETS to open 20 new Career Centers across the country with a goal to find employment for 500 veterans in 2013. The announcement comes on the same day the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced a 20 percent unemployment rate for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, far exceeding the national average.

AMVETS Career Center volunteers reach out to local employers to help veterans find jobs in their communities and provide follow up support to veteran career fairs, ensuring veterans have the necessary tools and skills to follow through and secure the jobs that will enable them to take care of themselves, their families, and move on with their lives.
