Direct Mail Design With the End in Mind www.small-business ...

Direct mail is really a proven method of upping your sales and your company visibility in the industry market. But there is a right way and a wrong method to do direct mail.

We are going to focus on how the graphic design of this direct mail piece plays an enormous part in the results you will probably have for your organization. Some direct mail pieces are merely letters sent out in envelopes to see prospects of the product or service you offer. But most are catalogues, postcards or flyers which are folded and tabbed.

Letters:

Many times people will not open an envelope which they recognize as direct postal mail, unless they know the organization or have an immediate need for the products or services that your company identify or envelope implies.

You can deal with this in on the list of ways:

You can get more than this speed bump manually , addressing the envelope. People will open a hand-addressed envelope in excess of they will open some sort of labeled one, and certainly more than an envelope that does not reference a particular person within the company.

If your mailing is too large to do hand-written deals with, create a compelling short statement created to get your intended audience to open the envelope.

Flyers:

As it relates to flyers that are folded with clear, affixed tabs, make sure that both sides in the folded flyer carry enough information for making the person want in order to open the tab along with read more. Many people make the mistake of having one side void of worthwhile information. The same problem prevails with postcards and flyers. They should be compelling enough to produce the reader turn it over to find out more.

Postcards:

Many companies make the particular sad mistake of not utilizing the medial side of the card containing the address. It should also include strong sales and advertising language. When the mail is sorted in the post office, it is all going into the same direction using the address up. This means that someone is making an initial decision to keep or dispose of the piece of email from traditionally the ?wrong? side in the postcard. By ?wrong? I mean the key side of the postcard which carries by far the most graphic design, is usually facing lower. This means that someone is making a quick decision to put your postcard in the trash good side of the postcard which includes their address on the item.

Wow, does this fly when confronted with traditional design concepts! It is absolutely critical your design carry a strong marketing message for the address side of this postcard or flyer.

Remember to keep what is important the main thing:

From a design point of view, if your desire is always to compel people, then don?t give them wordy details that useless up your mail piece. Make sure you are using adequate space to tell the principle message and accomplish your own direct mail goal. This means that if the desire is to obtain a phone call, make sure that your own language and design drives people to receive the phone. If your main message is always to drive them internet where they can find more details, put your website on the website in big bold words. (You should also have your website on most marketing material!)

Graphic Design:

Don?t try to have your direct mail portion be too ?cute? with its graphic design to the point where it becomes challenging for the reader to spotlight your main message-your call to action (phone call, search your website or visit your neighborhood). Direct mail?s purpose should rarely be to simply inform! We live in a great information-overload society. Do not make the mistake of cluttering your direct mail piece
