Former Coronation Street star Sophiya Haque dies of cancer, aged 41

FORMER Coronation Street star Sophiya Haque has passed away, after losing her battle with cancer.

Aged just 41, the actress died in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The soap star - who played Rovers Return barmaid and assistant manager Poppy Morales - passed away in her sleep, after being diagnosed with cancer before Christmas.

Sophiya starred in the West End production of?Michael Grandage's?Privates On Parade before falling ill.

Agent Stuart Piper told the Daily Express Sophiya was: "One of the most inspirational people I ever met."

He added: "She was a person you wanted to spend time with - full of light, warmth and compassion with an infectiously wicked sense of humour."

Sophiya appeared in several Bollywood films, worked as a presenter for MTV Asia and starred in?Andrew Lloyd Webber's Bombay Dreams.
