April Views - Journey Into Spring
Spring has arrived! As nature goes through one of its most beautiful cycles of rebirth and regeneration, why don?t you join in? Start off this spring season by renewing your body, health and life. We at Body Harmony are preparing for our Spring Yoga Retreat and Cleanse at the Xenia Sanctuary on Bowen Island. If you can?t join us, why not partake in your own dietary cleanse to boost your personal health? You can also rejuvenate your life by cleaning out the clutter. Enlist family and friends to help you with a spring cleaning of your home. The practice of de-cluttering can be an immensely powerful ritual because when you clear space in your home you are also clearing space in your mind. Remember, in order to pick up something new, we must always first let go of something we have been holding onto.
Congratulations to all of our Journey of Our Hearts participants who are definitely starting this spring with renewed health and vitality. A remarkable 20 of our 42 participants completed the 7 Daily Renewal Practices for 8 of the 10 weeks of the Journey, which made them eligible for our 1 Year of Unlimited Yoga. Congratulations to Karen Bennett who won the draw for 1 Year of Unlimited Yoga, and is also featured below as our Student of the Month!

Student of the Month
Congratulations to Karen Bennett for completing 8 of the 10 weeks of Journey of Our Hearts and winning 1 Year of Unlimited Yoga. She says, ?I have been very happy to begin my yoga practice at Body Harmony. Parking is easy, the physical space is beautiful and soothing with the views of mountains and trees, and the music. Each instructor brings a different presence to the class: Adrienne never fails to make me feel like I?m in the right place, doing the right thing for my body and my spirit; Lori challenges and guides me to expand my practice, striving to bring a note of interest and enlightenment; Jenn is a lovely gentle wake up on a Sunday morning. Yoga is the perfect complement to my other physical activities - hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, training, aerobics. Many of these activities tighten me up; yoga helps to work out the kinks (physically and mentally!) and makes me stronger and more flexible. I have enjoyed Body Harmony so much I have brought my husband, two of my daughters (I?ll work on that third one) and several friends to the studio; they now enjoy yoga as well! Namaste, and thank you!?

New Class - Yin / Yang Yoga
Body Harmony has added a new class to its schedule?Yin / Yang Yoga!?This style of yoga provides the best of both yin and yang practices in one class. The yin portion of the class consists of holding simple hatha yoga poses for extended periods of time (usually between 3 to 5 minutes) to stretch beyond the muscles and create greater flexibility in the connective tissues between the joints. In this class, the yin practice is married with yang practice where you flow through a variety of hatha yoga poses more quickly. The extended holding of these stretches in the yin portion is ideal for warming up the body and creating a more meditative state, while the more dynamic yang portion helps to strengthen and invigorate the body and mind.

Green Tip - Spring Cleaning
Use baking soda instead of chemical cleaners.?It?s cheap, effective and environmentally friendly!
- Dissolve a couple of tablespoons of baking soda in water in a microwave safe bowl, then bring to the boil in your microwave. Allow to sit for a minute or two, then you should easily be able to wipe out any baked on stains, plus your microwave will smell fresher too.
- To give your dishwasher a good clean, run it through a cycle and use baking soda instead of detergent.
- Crayon marks on walls? Try applying baking soda/water paste on an old toothbrush and lightly brush the affected area.
- Sprinkle baking soda on rugs and carpets before vacuuming as a deodorizing treatment. Most carpet powders you buy are baking soda based! Just a brief note on this - not recommended for areas that are very humid as the baking soda may stay in the carpet.
