Job Description: Assistant/Associate Professor in High School (9-12) Mathematics Education

The Department of Mathematics, Science, and Instructional Technology Education in the College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking applications for a tenure-track, full-time nine-month position to begin August 12, 2013. Rank/Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics pedagogy and mathematics content knowledge for prospective and practicing high school teachers; maintain a record of research, scholarship, and grant development relevant to mathematics teaching at the high school level; and provide service to the university, the larger community of high school teachers of mathematics, and to the profession.

Minimum Qualifications: Ed.D. or Ph.D. from an appropriately accredited institution, earned by July 15, 2013, in mathematics education or a related discipline with a minimum of 18 hours of coursework in mathematics education; record of research and scholarly publications (for associate rank) or demonstrated potential for research and scholarly publications (for assistant rank); experience teaching mathematics; and eligibility for a North Carolina teaching license in mathematics.

Preference given to candidates with:

  • Experience with standards-based high school mathematics curricula
  • Experience teaching high school mathematics
  • Experience providing professional development for high school teachers of mathematics
  • Active engagement in the professional mathematics education communities
  • 18 graduate hours in Mathematics
  • Experience with using technology in the teaching of mathematics
