China says its committed to low carbon economy (AP)

BEIJING ? Chinese officials say they are holding a three-day conference on climate change to show the world that China is determined to develop a low-carbon economy.

Huang Wenhang of China's National Development and Reform Commission said Tuesday that representatives from 30 international organizations and 10 areas and countries will attend the Beijing conference starting Wednesday.

She says they will discuss policy measures for green development and how to adapt to climate change.

The director general of the commission's climate change departmen, Su Wei, said they were not intending to deliver signals for the next major U.N. climate conference in Durban. But he told a news conference that China is determined to develop a low carbon economy.
