?60,000 tip for Welsh hospitality, food and drink companies | British ...

Welsh hospitality, tourism, food and drink manufacturing and food service businesses are to receive up to ?60,000 per business to help them prevent waste and cut costs. Small and medium businesses (SMEs) can apply for up to ?10,000 consultancy support and up to ?50,000 towards the cost of introducing sustainable waste management improvements. .

The package, unveiled? by resource efficiency experts WRAP Cymru at their conference in Cardiff, has been specifically developed to help deliver the ?5 million annual savings the sector could enjoy as a result of reducing the amount of waste it produces and recycling more.1

Eligible businesses will benefit from:

  • Up to ?10,000 consultancy support from an industry specialist
  • Up to ?50,000 towards the capital cost of implementing and maintaining a sustainable waste management solution
  • Access to online resources including case studies and toolkits derived from a number of benchmark UK companies

Applications are open to SMEs (either as individual businesses or in partnership with other SMEs) based anywhere in Wales. Benefits include a comprehensive portfolio of both financial (up to 60 per cent of capital costs) and practical advisory services and support.

The package was developed in association with British Hospitality Association, who led for the industry, backed by Wales Tourism Alliance and the Institute of Hospitality Cymru.

The three organisations jointly said they were very pleased?with the outcomes from all the discussions?and?fully recommend?them to our membership and the wider industry in Wales. It makes good business sense and we now have a unique opportunity in Wales?to make this work for?businesses as well as the environment.`

BHA Chair Andrew Evans said WRAP Cymru had listened carefully to industry requirements and had devised a package that closely met business needs. ?To date it has been a very successful partnership between the industry and WRAP Cymru and we look forward to leading for the industry in the implemention stages and to making a difference in Wales.?

Huw Lloyd, WRAP Cymru Business Account Manager specialising in the hospitality and food sectors,? said: ?This fund will help small and medium businesses across Wales cut waste, recycle more and reduce their costs. Considering the fact that every tonne of avoidable food waste costs a business ?1,8002 it could make a real difference to their bottom line.

?We?ve worked ?closely with the industry to ensure this package meets their needs. Hospitality, tourism and food businesses play such a significant role in Wales? economic and cultural life, so it?s great to be able to give them a boost.?

The package is funded by the Welsh Government, and will run for two years; support is available on a first come, first served basis.
